Jim:

For your machine, can you please give me a ball park estimate on climb data to FL 240; i.e. time and fuel assuming WOT,
also no-wind distance. Thanks, billhogarty@direcway.com

Hi Bill,
I'm not sure if you wanted Jim Hergert to respond to the above about my L4P with TSIO-550E, but I will. The Subject doesn't apply either.
I have never been able to hold WOT (38.5/2700) 48 gph for more than 5K ft and wouldn't anyway. So climb is done at about 33/2500 at 33/34 gph. If I am full,108 gal. heavy, 3550 lbs. it takes me from 30 to 45 minutes. That is leaving San Jose which is about 280 msl and I usually have 3 or 4 altitude restrictions during the climb. So maybe 5 to 10 min. is lost there. This is using 160 kts IAS. Initially the climb rate is about 2000 fpm at WOT 140/150 IAS but most of the time it's 900/1000 until about 17K then I'm down to 600 up to FL240. The distance is about SJC to Fresno, what ever that is, however I almost never get to look outside, things are too busy. All the time watching the CHT's in my airplane. At leveling off I'm down 15/20 gals in one tank, and my TruTrak will hold that much of out of balance, then I switch tanks, go LOP at cruise and fly for 1 to 1.5 hours before worrying about changing tanks. Some times on a 2.5 hr flight I change tanks the second time on descent and that is it. On my normal 540 KM trip it uses about 40 to 45 gals. or about the same as my slow A36 on the same trip.
I bet I could use 100 gal if I had a Turbine? Gee????

Not now though, engine is out needing Cam and Lifters,
