Your magneto story seems about right. I just had my magnetos redone
with the 500 hour inspection after finding a perfect right magneto but a
wet and rusting left magneto. With close inspection it appeared that
the left magneto has about a 1 to 1.5" gap in the pressure seal along
the bottom edge. Both are working fine now but I believe that the
replacement of the filter element should be done on a regularly
scheduled basis, at least annually. My filter "looked" good and was not
replaced until I discovered the wet magneto. I had been in some heavy
rain about 6 months before this discovery but not since. Can't really
figure out how the moister is entering as the magneto's are pressurized
and should preclude entry from a leaking pressure seal. Maybe this is a
result of moisture entering on cool down, as in condensation with a
leaking seal. I know that I will be watching them closely in the
future. BTW I have found a source for the filters at a fair discount to
the TCM part. With shipping and handling they are running about $42.00.
Here's wishing you the best of luck with TCM. Keep us informed at to
how they are handling the issue and thanks for the update.
