  I was at that race too- Rick's correct- it was about 5 feet.  As his and Darryl's planes flew by the finish line, there was no space between the tail of Darryl's and the nose of Rick's.  I don't know what race or heat you're referring to, but Rick's talking about the Gold race in 2003.  The gap between first and second in that race was a very small fraction of one second, not 1.99.
