I had 2 service bulletins applied before it was ever used (Loctite on flange threads and a recommended service performed by Lancair). However, I whacked away the tow bar once (Lancair type, located on the nosewheel fork) with the path-clearing propeller blade. A year later, on employing an experimental landing technique, I managed to slam the nose down hard enough to destroy the prop and deform the nosewheel fork. For safety, I replaced the the fork, bearings and nosewheel assembly (and, for a small additional fee, the prop). The tire has generally been inflated to about 30 psi and the wheel, when hand-spun off the ground, has been tightened to not allow more than 1/2 of a turn. I have never had the slightest shimmy. Recently, because of an internal leak, Lancair rebuilt my strut with the self-centering option and what appears to be a beefier actuator and flange. They stated that I should have had shimmy because my old dampener was approaching trash. Since there is so much concern about the conditions leading to shimmy, could those people who have experienced shimmy please send the following to the LML so we could tabulate the info: Lancair Type Strut serial # (on the bottom of the flange or written in your log book) Tire pressure Tire condition (uneven wear or scalloping) Abusive treatment (Rough taxiing conditions, sideways landings, etc Any other pertninent info Scott Krueger N92EX P.S. I would love to hear Dan Schaefer's prop story since I am on blade 4 and 5. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> LML homepage: http://www.olsusa.com/Users/Mkaye/maillist.html
