My ES still has an unacceptable level of radio noise when transmitting
on either COM. For a while, I had convinced myself that some of it was
static buildup, due to my still flying in primer [the DuPont Corlar primer
will make your hair stand up when you rub it down]. Now, however, with a
pretty, new paint job, I still have the problem. This is after having my
audio panel (PMA6000M) exchanged for one with the latest grounding and other
mods. I also ripped out lots of wiring, re-routing things to get COM
antenna leads far away from everything else, did some extra grounding and
shielding, etc., etc.
At this point I think I've left my envelope of expertise, and need some
professional help in tracking down the source of the noise, and a fix for
same. I'm located in South Texas (2R8, near Corpus Christi). Does anyone
out there have an avioniker that is good at tracking these things down? I
get the feeling that the fellow I've used in the past is brushing me off a
bit because I didn't buy my radios from him. The Lancair shop only wants to
work on new installations that they build up. Those attitudes are
understandable, I guess, but I'm willing to pay going rates for the
expertise I need. I think composites have some problems different from spam
cans, but what it really needs is someone with a nose for diagnosing
problems. At this point I don't know if the noise originates in the radios
(Terra), the panel, the panel harness, RF pickup directly from the COM
antennas into wiring, or ..... ?
Any names or leads would be much appreciated. You might just e-mail me
directly, rather than posting them here on LML. Thanks in advance for
anyone that can help.
