Matt,

<<How do you (or others) seal the intake air filt "box" opening to the
opening of the cowl? >>

I have a piece of 3" aluminum tubing in the nose of the inlet.  I slide
a piece of SCAT duct over this tube first.  This is a very tight fit if
the tube is the nominal 3.00" diameter.  On cowl #2, I machined the OD
down a few thousandths.  The SCAT duct is much easier to slide on but
still remains in place unaided.  The Scat duct is about 3 inches long
even though my gap between the cowl tube and the air box is only about
0.5".  To install the cowl, I use some hooks made of music wire to hold
the SCAT duct in a retracted position (pulled forward-see photo).  After
installing the cowl, I remove the hooks and allow the SCAT duct to
expand.  The inlet to the Air box has an initial OD of about 2.95" so
the SCAT duct expands fairly easily until the diameter begins to flair
out.  I like to keep the SCAT duct a little long so that  it remains
slightly bunched up in the gap.  This tells me it is wedged in on both
ends, is sealing well, and won't move in either direction.
Hope this helps.
