The reason I recommended naptha
is that in a previous life I had a company that manufactured custom polymer
based bath ware (showers, whirlpool tubs, toilets etc.) as well as counter
products for residential and commercial applications. Had a couple of
crews that did custom installation/renovation work. In that type of
product, lots of silicone is used. Naptha did an excellent job of cleaning
the polymer surfaces that needed good silicone adhesion, and also worked well to
clean up cured silicone after-the-fact.
Also had a tenant in my
building that was a fabricator of acrylic structures (Florida/Sun rooms, store
display fixtures etc) and misc parts who used naptha exclusively to
ensure a clean surface, great adhesion and sealing, and good for clean up
without harming the acrylic.
One caution note re use in
confined areas: you can get quite a buzz on.
