For big pieces, I use a 80 grit pad on my 5" or 6" sander. Make sure you do both sides, it's much easier off the plane to sand. For small pieces of foam, I've just used a fine sanding sponge.  F= or big pieces, I use a 80 grit pad on my 5" or 6" sander.  Make sure yo= u do both sides, it's much easier off the plane to sand.
