The cowl with the blisters on it is for the TSIO-550 (Darryl's and my engine have larger than normal turbos). My engine came from Performance Engines in La Verne, CA (Darryl also had his done there last year). Andy also makes a cowling for the normal IO-550. Reference Lee Behel's cowl. There are a couple of differences, that I know of, between the TSIO-550 and the IO-550. The IO-550 cowl doesn't have the blisters and has cowl flaps. The intake area may be smaller on the IO-550 also. I'm not aware of any public discussion about Andy's cowlings. As far as I know Andy is the only source of these items (at some point in the near future Andy will supply all the items for the Super Legacy through Lancair). The TSIO-550 in my airplane does not use the standard engine mount. The mount is specific to the Super Legacy, and again Andy has developed the source of this item. My plenum has a few minor change from Darryl's. Mostly making it easier to remove and service the engine. I'm not sure if that little bit of information helps much. Probably a call to Andy at (949) 498-3875 could get you more answers. Andy told me a couple of days ago that some publication (I don't know which one) will be doing an article about Andy, Darryl and the activities of their company, Aerochia. The direction I am going with my airplane was settled some time ago. I wasn't offended by your post. Like you, my only intent was to provide some information that others might find useful.
