Someone commented on the fact that the Company planes have 9:1 pistons and
that must be how they get their numbers, and has anyone else achieved the
published numbers. Well I also doubted those numbers until I had 2
experiences... the 1st was in the '98 Copperstate Dash, which I flew at
7500 feet, early A.M. (very little wind) and had an average speed of 201+ kts
from a standing start (including climb) to a flying finish over a 300 nm
course. The 2nd was the testing done on my plane by the Cafe Foundation
(Feb. 99 in Sport Aviation) who showed a top cruise speed of 233+MPH at
6000ft. Not too shabby for a stock IO320 on which the only modification is
polished intakes. Beleive Lancair's numbers. They are correct.
Sincerely,
Fred N9BF ( Don't fly like my brother)
