I'm no expert about this stuff and, in fact, managed to bond in the firewall stiffening ribs with peel ply on one side. That happened becuase, like you, I couldn't tell if there was really peel ply on this prepreg panel. I should have known because it did have the black stripes, but none of the other panels with my kit had that, so after fooling with it for awhile, I decided to just use it as is. Then, later when I used the rest of the panel for the rear seat, I started trying to peel the stuff again, and, Lo and behold, I got a corner started. The next painful step was to remove the bid tapes from the side of the three ribs with peel ply in place and then to redo the step after the peel ply was taken off. I was really surprised that removing these bid tapes was very difficult. In one or two places, the bond was so strong that it actually pulled up the surface of the 3 layer per side prepreg panel. At one time I couldn't tell the difference between a two layer panel I had and a three layer panel. I called the factory and asked Don Goetz. He suggested burning a corner. The layers would separate and you could identify them that way. Perhaps the same technique could be used to start removing/identify peel ply.
