I LOVE that HUD! I do fly the 737-800 and the HUD in it is so good and
easy to fly with that AA declined to certify it's 737's for autoland,
because they found that pilots can hand fly CAT III approaches better that
the autopilot when using the HUD for guidance. We're now approved to hand
fly approaches down to 50' AGL in 700' RVR.
With the evolution of glass cockpits into general aviation, I have to
wonder when we'll get HUDs as well. Gulfstream is now installing them with
infrared imaging that shows the runwayand surrounding terrain as if it were
day VFR. Amazing stuff.
Do you think BAE will ever be able to develop a small enough, light enough
and affordable HUD for GA aircraft?
