Gentlemen,

The last few days have seen a marked increase in "inter-forum
bickering".  Regardless of the reason, this is
counterproductive, disrupts and discourages the free exchange of ideas,
and in general is beneath our collective dignity.

The very idea of publicly ridiculing ANY idea that comes over this forum
is contrary to the very reason you build an experimental. To achieve
above average performance requires the consideration of ideas that range
from the"out of the ordinary" to the Extra-ordinary, to the
"Visionary".  Who is to say from where these progressive ideas may come
from? To engage in an electronic Male Appendage Waving Contest is a
juvinile action.  Any electronic exchange is somewhat anonymous.  This
makes it easy to type while your emotions are in full rage, forgetting
there are real people with sensible sensitivities and feelings on the
other end. It is easy to hit the "send" button without pausing to
reflect on the effect our words may have on others.  As a personal
policy,  it may be wise to write while emotional, but wait several hours
before re-reading your proposed posts and considering options while in a
more even tempered state, prior to hitting the "Send" button.

While there may be some very legitimate issues on the question of
Factory Support by certain forum participants,  comments on the
individual support received should be directed to the problem being
addressed, not the manner in which you perceive the problem is being
solved.  Consistant Factory bashing through this forum will simply mean
that this list will no longer be viewed as an information resource,  but
as a place to vent one's spleen. May I respectfully suggest that such
extra-ordinary comments be addressed to the factory in private.  If you
wish to take your argument public, consider taking out an advertisment
in a magazine directed to future purchasers.  By arguing within this
forum,  you sour everyone and will win few compatriots.  Remember,
virtually everyone here has already "unzipped his fly" and is commited
to producing the finest project possible.

In an experimental,  there are as many solutions as there are problems.
The open discussion of these problems allows everyone from the Neophyte
to the "World Class Engineer" to listen, learn, and occassionally
contribute to the discussion.  Some outstanding ideas have come forward
in this list.  The knowlege and the willingness to share must be
encouraged or it will surely dry up.  The second  worse thing that an
idea can be is wrong, the very worse thing is if the idea is not brought
forward for discussion for fear of a public flogging.

I believe that Marv started this list to ENCOURAGE participation, the
ENJOYMENT of building and aviation in general. I have personally learned
a great deal from my readings here.  On occasion, I have contributed
when I felt that my background or knowlege could be of assistance to the
list community.  On occasion, my contributions have had some positive
results. I am a simple enough a man to admit that I am proud when I am
able to assist my fellow flyers. Let us consider the benefit of a
positive contribution as opposed to the naysaying we have recently seen.

We may be better off if we can put aside the personal attacks, and
re-focus on the more noble pursuit of helping each other build and fly
safely, efficiently, and with the largest "grin/pain" ratio as possible.
Any forum that elevates the art of personal attack and ridicule is
doomed to failure.  It just wouldn't be nearly as much fun as building,
or flying.

My objective in writing this is to help us remember that everyone and
their ideas has value.  To depricate these tennents is to deny ourselves
of a most valuable resource.  Please accept this in the spirit of
comraderie in which it is intended.

Respectfully and with regard to all,

Jeffrey B. Chipetine

(P.S. ...yes I waited about 4 hours before I hit the "send" button. <g>
