Carl Cadwell's pictures of the Boys with their Toys showed some beautiful
machines! Hard choice over the Cobra replica and the Prancing Pony. I've
refrained from sending similar pictures over the years, but figure if the
list finds Carl's pics interesting, I'll send mine in too.
The pic shows N235SP, an 11 year old LNC2 (kit No. 52) that I started in
late '87 and first flew in '93 - (there were NO fast-build Lancairs back
then) parked next to my '64 Porsche 356C. The Porsche was my daily drive
from '64 to about '82 when, after 250,000+ miles (during which I had one
engine re-build) it was layed up for restoration. Five years later, it was
still waiting when I started the Lancair. Of course, the Lancair took
precedence so the car waited some more.
Finally got around to the restoration in '01 thru '03 after I retired.
Everything original that could be restored, was - even including the
originally installed Blaupunkt radio. Interesting side-light, the
out-the-door price on the Porsche in '64 was around $5500 - it is now
insured, on an agreed-to value policy, at $45,000! (what with the inflation
over the intervening years, that's probably close to the original value).
Still drives like a dream but I've lost the eye for picking the correct line
thru a corner (Dang! Missed the apex again), so now, I just don't push it
and use it for low-key Sunday drives.
Cheers,
Dan Schaefer
