The 500-hour questionÂ….. It is possible to operate the system with the spool valve in backwards. The drawbacks are:
1. The high pressure will have to fight the low-pressure relief valve while bringing the gear up. This will tend to require a slightly higher setting on the high side pressure switch.
2. A leak from high to low can get trapped in the low circuit. 3. If you need to extend the gear while it is retracting, you may see a hesitation of several seconds in the response.
Unless you have a leak, install pressure gauges or test the retraction to extension response you may never know anything is wrong.
