I don't know which "Carbon Pony" you have, but a friend of
mine who has a IV-P with over 900 hours on it had some wide tape applied to his
leading edges (looked like 3M electrical tape - black) and discovered that he
had lost about 10 knots of airspeed. His theory was that the thick
edge of the tape was disrupting the air flow, so he used micro to blend the
edge of the tape with the rest of the wing curvature - still lost 10
knots. Removed the tape and got the 10 knots back.
I would check with the tape manufacturer and discuss these
possible issues.
