The light is a GE MR-16 12-V 50W bulb obtained at Home Depot. The
one shown in the photo is a "flood" lamp and has a glass front already attached
to the bulb. This fixture is mounted to the nose gear as shown. The
fixture is a projector fixture QLV-1 which I obtained at an electrical supply
company here in San Diego. The cost of the bulb was about $10 and the
fixture was about $7.
In 1994 (so prices may be different now) I obtained the projector fixture
and a 100 watt halogen lamp from:
Variety Lighting Supply
2472 Eastman Avenue, Suite 27
Ventura, Ca. 93003
(805) 644-9861 or 656-3155
The cost then was:
Fixture: 005-QLV-1 Socket For MR
16 $ 5.78
Lamp: 004-EMC 12V 100W (WKO
brand) $17.82
Shipping: (to Oregon)
$
5.84
The 100 watt lamp has an open flood diffusion, is rated at
about 8 amps and does not have a lamp cover.
For a cover, I used a round glass lens from a flashlight siliconed on
with 4 thin equally spaced spacers for venting. The venting spacers
may not have been necessary since the lamp is not enclosed in a mounting housing
and the installation is on the gear leg in the wind.
Information on this subject was presented on page 35 in the August 1993
issue of Lancair Network News with a reference to a picture of it in the June
1993 issue. Also, the July/August 1993 (Volume No. 8, Issue No. 4) page 7
issue of Lancair Mail Newsletter included a picture.
