I know this subject has been picked over many times before but for an
OI360B1F installation, is there any consensus on the single best
location for the oil cooler?

I don't think there was ever a consensus.  After all, homebuilders are an independent lot and there are lots of ways to "Skin a Cat".  My personal favorate, read bias and how mine is installed, is to mount it on the foward engine baffle just ahead of cylinder 2.  A small scoop to capture ram air and dump the hot air into the lower cowling.  No ducting, brackets or dificult access.  Just a couple of oil lines back to front.

I will try and get some pictures next time the cowl is off.
