Mark,
I have GPSS on my S-Tec 55. It
was wired in when my panel was built, so that part of it wasn't something I had
to deal with. One important thing is to make sure the converter
you get is compatible with your GPS. The GPSS converter was
designed using ARINC RS-429 format. That wasn't compatible with
the Apollo GPS I have (GX-60), which requires RS-232. UPS
and S-Tec worked together to make the necessary software and hardware changes so
they would work together, but it requires a specific model of GPSS
converter. S-Tec can tell you what your avionics
require.
After using GPSS, I can't imagine not
having it. Almost any time I go anywhere, I use GPS waypoints, so
I never use VOR tracking. It was definitely worth putting in
- it's worked flawlessly and I highly recommend it.
