What are IV-P builders doing for landing/taxi lights
Here is a picture of my (N6XE Jim Hergert) landing/taxi lights. I installed two automotive Sylvania HID lights. These use only 35 watts and are 10 time brighter than Halogen's. They put out a wide rectangular beam that even covers the left side of the runway very good. Since they don't have a filament you can mount them on the engine baffle. I have them mounted one on top of the other with the bottom pointing level and the top one tilted a little down so my beam coverage is great for landing and also for taxi. I mounted them back as far as possible so they wouldn't have an unfavorable effect on cooling, which seems to be the case. I talked to others that mounted there light too far forward and caused some cooling interference. I'm happy with mine and they make real good anti collision lights. I think they are now $299.00 online. See link but it takes some work to get around on this website. I used the X1010 Auxiliary Low Beam model.
