I=20= also have a butterfly valve at the firewall with a lever into the=20 cockpit. The lever in the cockpit is just left of the air filter lever in photo=20= 6 on my web page. (http://www.dynacomm.ws/~lorn/) On my web page the=20 Oil cooler butterfly must not have been installed because the lever was=20= not installed when the picture was taken. I assume that my airplane=20 builder had the same problem that you are having. In the winter, I take off and fly with the butterfly closed. I open it=20= when the oil temperature gets to between 170=B0F and 180=B0F, if I=20 remember. If I forget to open it, the temp may get up to as high as=20 210=B0F. I don't think that is high enough to hurt the engine. The valve=20= allows me change my oil temperatures by 20=B0F to 30=B0F. I am very happy to have this butterfly, valve combination. I always=20 hated the thought of having to install and remove a winterization kit.=20= I may leave Detroit at 20=B0F and land in Jacksonville at 70=B0F. Then = what=20 do I do about the kit?
