Gary,
Just install the braces and get on with business. Here is a picture of my
flap in the full down position. There is a 7/8th inch gap between the flap
leading edge and the wing trailing edge at the fillet. The flap doesn't
"underlap" the wing skin until about a foot from the aileron, and that also
varies from one wing to the other.
The fuselage fillet thickness at one inch forward of the trailing edge is
3/8th inch in the picture, i.e. the left side. At the same point on the
right hand fuselage fillet the thickness is 5/8th inch. I was bumfuzzled by
the mismatch in those fillets when I was building. With the fuselage
inverted on the bench, I braced and clamped those things until I came up
with a compromise thickness then bonded them. It took considerable micro
fill on the top surface of the inboard end of the RH flap to blend in that
area with the fuselage fillet. Some on the left but not as much.
The fuselage faired position is the reflexed (cruise) position.
