WOW, what an excellent bunch of suggestions…guess we
have all been considering this factor.
The automotive aftermarket window hammer that Rob placed a
link to has a serious drawback in my book. It was designed for automotive
glass, hence has no cutting edge on the tool with which we could cut our way
through the Plexiglas. Automotive windows are much easier to work your
way through after a hammer type blow than Plexiglas. My baggage
compartment window was broken, and I tested the ability to “remove”
the rest of the glass….very hard job without some sort of helping tool.
Same thoughts apply to shooting through the Plexiglas initially.
I see two factors that we must consider….1) some type
of striking tool to create the initial breaking force, and 2) a sawing tool to
complete the opening. I like the opening Legacy window, and will
definitely install one, but I still want to be prepared.
I will be in Bend next week, and
will visit with the Lancair Columbia folks, specifically their parts supply,
and look over the axe and see if they would entertain a “group”
order, then report back after I return in a week or so.
