Jeff, While I was building my Lancair 320, I got my Private (C152, 3/90), then MEL (limited to centerline thrust) in a Skymaster (12/90), followed by an Instrument rating (Skymaster, 3/93) and Commercial rating (Skymaster, 6/94) before ever flying my twitchy Lancair (9/96). Only 8 hours in a simulator unless you want to add one more hour for the B737-200 full motion Sim (I still get the giggles when I remember that experience).
