Let me know what you think.... One of the problems that occurs with most of the TSIO-550 is the need to perform a top over haul every 400-600 hours. I have been studying Rick's Schrameck's Legacy (congrads to him for placing 2nd at Reno!) supercharger system and think another choice might be possible. What about an IO-520 with a super charger? Build up all the HP in the engine rather than using manifold pressure. Make it a normalizing system. I think you would have plenty of bleed air to run your cabin pressure system. The air going in could go through a heat exchanger. The air out of the supercharger will not be as hot as the air out of the turbo. I'd imagine you could build up an engine with the supercharger and have less than $50,000 invested and have a great reliable system. Now your aircraft could do multi missions. You could have the choice of cruising high and find the good tail winds or go over weather for longer distance traveling. The other choice would be to cruise low and get out of headwind as well as fly in your area without burning fuel at higher rate. And of course every high performance engine is complicated in performance by the Lancair Tuned Exhaust System which, by the way if you haven't heard by now , is available through Lancair, contact Vern, for placing your order today!
