The 2003 Redmond 100 (or=20= so) Air Race (Sunday, 31 August), a participant=E2=80=99s report.

The traditional race was=20= reorganized to avoid a TFR around the fire still burning NW of Redmond.  The new course was from Redmond (= KRDM) to Madras (S33) to Sun River (S21) to Redmond.  My Flightstar program computed the distance as 101 N= M if it was flown per the rules.  Note that the race minimum altitudes were 3500 ft after takeoff, 3100 ft= at S33, 6000 ft at S21 and 4600 ft back at RDM.  There was a NW wind component and very limited visibilit= y (smoke) at the middle of the S33 to S21 leg, not to mention the occasional= mound of dirt and rocks getting in the way.  Race times were accurately recorded by an independent s= ecret observer in the RDM tower.  Later =E2=80=9Cofficial=E2=80=9D computations were a little less accurat= e.
