I don't know swat about electronics but the July issue of Kitplanes had a digram of a 1/4 wave GPS graound plane of 3.65" x 3.65" and a 3/4 wave ground plane of 10.95" x 10.95 with the cable routed through the middle.  This was also 8 sided like a stop sign.  Jim Weir the author also talked a LOT about how huge the losses are in signal strength and how important it is to keep your runs short or have a signal amplifier.

I agree, I'd like to see something on best locations and sizes for antenna's, ground planes and such for the ES which being glass skinned may have an effect.
