Bill, FIBERFRAX was the recommended material (by Lancair) with which to
underlay the SS sheet firewall on early LNC2's. Don't remember if it was
supplied with the kit but I followed directions and used the stuff. If I
remember, the thickness was about 1/8th inch and it was adhered to the
plywood with a silicone adhesive.

Purportedly, it is a very effective heat shield particularly in the event of
an engine room fire. If I didn't get it with the kit, I probably got it from
ACS.
