Fred,

I only have 27 hours on my 320 and I have the same problems with my
Duke's pump losing its prime when hot (fuel vaporization and it is too
high on the firewall).  Per a strong recommendation from Orin Riddell
when he was here to test fly my plane, I plan to do the following this
fall/winter:

  1. Make a shroud for the gascolator and feed it with cool air from the
upper plenum

  2. Make a shroud for the engine-driven fuel pump and feed it with cool
air

  3. Move the Duke's pump to underneath the passenger's seat on the
floor.

Relocating the Duke's pump on the floor will make it so that it is
always submerged with fuel from the wing tanks (I also don't have a
header tank) and, more importantly, keep it cool.  Running these pumps
dry (losing the prime) will wear out the vanes and I don't want to be
replacing/overhauling this on a regular basis.  I know one LNC2 driver
that has overhauled 3 times in 800 hours because he has the same
problem.  He is also going to relocate the pump this winter.

As far as adding the Facet pump, I personally would prefer to avoid the
additional complexity - I like things to be as simple as they can
reasonably be.  Relocating the Duke's is extra work up front, but will
give you a more reliable system in the end.

What do others think?  Anyone with an LNC2 have the Duke's pump in the
cockpit and care to comment on the effectiveness?

Thanks!

After 800 plus hours, I have come to the conclusion , after reading lml
and slow starting, that my Dukes Fuel Pump is to hign on the firewall.<<<
