I installed a comm antenna ground plane in my Legacy using 4 strips of
copper mesh, a piece of .032 brass sheet and a flathead MS screw.  It is
fabricated by soldering the wire mesh to the brass sheet and then cutting
the ends of the wire mesh to be 22? from the center of the sheet.  The MS
screw is soldered to the brass sheet as a grounding lug.  The entire
assembly was bonded to the bottom of the baggage compartment and peel ply
was used to get it to lay as flat as possible over the uneven fuselage.  I
then covered the mesh with duct tape to protect mesh from damage.

Fabricating the ground plane was easy and inexpensive and hopefully worth
it.  I now plan to make a ground plane for my transponder antenna out of a
5? diameter aluminum disk.
