You did the major thing by putting the fuel pump closer to the tank. Most electric fuel pump instructions that I have seen say to put it as close to the tank as possible and not over 18" away. Also they are made for more push than pull that is why they want it below and close to the tank. That is also why almost all pumps are in the tank on cars and trucks and also that keeps them cool. Some A/C are also inside of the tanks. Just another 2 cents.
