One of the benifits that ECI claims for the CermiNil cylinder is that they
breakin during the first hour of operation. Most pilots think that cylinder ring
seating can be spotted by the lowering and stabilization of oil
consumption. This is false. Ring seating can be spotted by a drop of about 50 degrees
of CHT. You can actually see it happen right there - on the runup/test
stand.
Could be. I am going more by the recommended oil change procedure
in the ECI "Breakin Manual". I have had to experience the following
complications:
1.I did not fly my engine for the first 15 hours.
2. A problem with my LASAR ignition kept CHT operating temperatures
higher than expected.
3. It took me awhile to recognize that oil levels over 6.5 qts
resulted in it just being expelled out the breather. Usage did "stabilize"
if I kept the level down.
4. I was influenced by ECI's manual of oil change procedures for the
"breakin" period.
5. I don't use no stinking air filter.
I consider the engine "broken in" by the fact that, after 65
hours, I am now running the oil I like from personal experience - Aeroshell
15/50. And, I can't detail oil consumption because currently I am running
the hell out of the engine without carefully monitoring usage.
