My experience has been that the blisters are much needed. Couldn't get temps right without them. I even installed an electric cowl flap behind the nose gear fairing that I use on really hot days.
The shop that did the finish work on my ES built the blisters. They were not available from the factory when my plane was being completed.
Any good fiberglass shop, Corvette repair, street rod body shop.......should be able to make the molds and build the blisters. Will probably cost quite a bit more than the ones from Lancair, but shouldn't take three months to get, either.
If I were building now, I would probably use the IV lower cowl.

I'm installing the exhaust system on my SuperES and think exhaust blisters
would be needed to fair the lower pipes. Lancair says to use a 4P lower cowling
with the exhaust blisters already installed [$800.00/ 3 month wait] or order
just the blisters [$165.00 ea/ 3 month delay]. Tim also says blisters are not
required and are very draggy.
Can anyone comment? Can't believe a three month delay [they're made in the
Philippines]. Don't they carry any stock? Blisters can't be all that hard to
make? Does anyone have a mold?
