Hey fellow
Legacy builders,
Allyson and I have never felt like the
cockpit of the Legacy, with its sharp edges and corners, fit with the beautiful
lines and styling of the outside.
So, I’ve worked up this cockpit design concept for our airplane
that may also motivate some of you to develop your ideas.
Some who’ve seen it say I’m
putting Jaguar styling in the cockpit.
Beyond the artistic changes, it also enables installing a throttle
quadrant, allows the panel to be tilted forward for access, allows easy panel
removal for maintenance, a remote circuit breaker panel on the side wall below
the panel (visible and accessible, not pictured), and provides a panel dust
cover that fits and incorporates canopy defroster vents.
Of course, this is taking some time and
slowing our build down. I’m
making progress, though, on the parts/patterns needed to make molds for final
parts. The photo below is a few
weeks old – the parts are in primer now and mounted to the flanges needed
for vacuum bagging.
Allyson and I are leaving tomorrow morning
for the Legacy fly in, in San Francisco/San Jose, on Saturday and we’re
looking forward to seeing everyone.
We’d also like to hear your ideas for improving the Legacy’s
cockpit before we make molds of the new parts. We’ll also pass on what
we’ve learned so far on this little cockpit improvement project for
anyone else inspired to put a little “cool” in their cockpit…
