I have decided to add both the wing mounted and landing gear mounted
lights to my Legacy.  My reasoning for the wing mounted lights is that I
want to run my pulse lights during climb and decent and in the airport
traffic area for collision avoidance.  I couldn't do this if the lights
were mounted on the gear.

While attending a safety seminar in Anchorage, Alaska we were told that
operating our landing lights could reduce the chance of a bird strike by
as much as 50%.  I fear a bird strike almost as much as I fear a close
encounter with another aircraft.

My home base airport, Pine Mountain Lake (Q68) also has lots of deer on
the runway, especially at dusk.  For this reason, I am installing
additional lights on my gear, so when I am landing I can illuminate more
of the runway.  The cost of one deer strike more than pays for the
additional lighting.

The pulse light will power the wing and gear lights, but the gear lights
will be hooked to a relay that will not allow them to be powered when the
gear is in the gear wells.  If all goes well, I may get to see if the
system works as intended in about 6 months.
