Hello all,
Am I correct in my assumption that the braided shield in the strobe cables needs to be grounded at one end??
Here the issue and a little background. My com 1 antenna ( Bob Archer) is installed in the vertical stab and I'm concerned about the possibility of noise creeping in from the tail strobe which is mounted on the rudder.
The A500A came with a 3 pin connector attached to unshielded wires 8" long. It seems to me I should make these unshielded leads as short as possible, yes? This connector attaches inside the rudder to 24" of shielded Whelen cable.
I have an access point directly beneath the horizontal stab where I make the connection of this short cable to the shielded cable which runs forward to the power supply under the co-pilot seat.
So, the three leads between the A500A and connector in the rudder are unshielded. The shield on the short 24" cable does not connect to the long cable run to the power supply, and there are two unshielded connectors in this cable, both within 3 feet of the com 1 antenna. The unshielded portion of the com1 center conductor is about 1" or maybe a bit less.
Any suggestions here? If I can eliminate all unwanted noise, perhaps I'll go as fast as Larry?
