Congrats on closing in! The primer should do fine and won't really be
affected by oils and contamanents per se but if there are pin holes (and who
doesn't have a boat laod of them?), oil and other cooties can be trapped
there. If you decide to fly in primer, you'd REALLY want to scrub it down
with hot soap and water a couple of times and be prepared to spot prime.
Then sand and you're set. The primer is softer and more prone to damage than
the gloss but it's still pretty tough stuff.
