<<<<I have found that the fairing that wraps around the landing gear tube is
not even close to fit into the wheel pant or the fuselage fairing. In some
areas it is over 1" too small meaning that an artist in micro work must get
to work to try to salvage these joint areas or possibly discard of the
Lancair parts and mold my own. Before I get too committed to this project
does anyone have any advice on the best way to fit these pieces together in
an acceptable fashion? Bryan >>
I modified the shape of my gear leg fairings compared to the recommended by
clamping to produce a "cusp" and then a blunt trailing edge. I used the
standard wheel fairings, which fit reasonably well by my standards -
probably not to discriminating standards. However, making the wheel
fairings level produced an "angle if incidence" of the leg fairing that may
not be good. Then I made all-new on-piece fuselage fairings of my own
design. They obviously fit the gear leg fairings very well. These fairings
attach to the fuselage with screws and slide down the gear leg for service.
The gear leg will have to be removed to remove the fairing. The wheel
fairings also seem to me to be quite heavy and I wonder how durable they
will be with the pounding they take.
