The primary purpose was to set up my test area. But the question of a second person in the plane came up. The answer was a flat "NO!" I was told that the regs are iron-clad. There is no exception since there is no reason for a second person to be needed in a single engine airplane as a "required crew member" for any purpose. In their eyes, flight training in your airplane is a No-No. Of course, their eyes are not looking at you unless you mess up...
