I am getting close to putting the baggage door on and have a thought that
will have the purists wretch: I think I saw one someplace that had a piano
hinge instead of the supplied parts. The advantage would be greater
strength and stiffness with less weight. The standard ones do look a little
flexible. It also looks like the fuselage was designed for a piano hinge as
the hinge line is at an angle that produces a straight line at the upper
edge of the door. Of course, the piano hinge would be visible and result in
some chipped paint. If I used a piano hinge I do promise to build a
no-visible-hinge oil if that will help. Any opinions on this?
Mark Mahnke has to love this list, as every time I have a question to ask
him it gets answered here.
