I just didn't like the stock air guides around the cylinders since they had no provisions to force the air to stay in the fins after passing the edge of the iter-cylinder baffles (as you probably noted). Without any guidance from prior knowlege, I merely took a SWAG and allowed about a 1 inch wide opening along the bottom of the cylinders. This seems to work just fine on my O-235 with the high comp. pistons - I have never seen excessive CHT's in any flight regime - in fact, my CHT's may run a little low - (don't have the numbers in my head, but much less than red-line). I did have one episode where CHT's got uncomfortably high but that was on the ground (in the California desert at Edwards AFB in the summer, with the wind blowing from about 5:00 o'clock) waiting for take off clearance behind at least 30 other airplanes. Turning into the wind cured the problem (although I'm not sure the guy beside me was too thrilled)! Hope this helps. Dan Schaefer Early LNC2, 235
