If I here you correctly you're saying that gaps of 3/8" were easily
bridged by ice?  If so, this already sounds huge and I'd suspect that
1/2" gaps would be equally irrelevant in the conditions you ran through.

My rule of survival; "no known or forecast icing" will I ever enter in
my plastic toy.  Perhaps this is an easy axiom since I live in the TX
and rarely have to deal with it.  Be Safe!
