For my Legacy I have made the whole cowling with alu-hinges. You can have a

Very important is that you cover the rivets outside before you do body work
with a 1BID very thin glass fiber so that the rivets not extrude the paint
.
  But I am sure that will be, then the temperature difference of the
composite masterials with the alu rivets can cause such a damage if you not
do it.

Why I have appointed alu-piano hinges on my cowling was the reason that in
the tight curves, specially the upper cowling, you have to bend them and
angle adjust each hinge tooth.
So that you have a good sashay of the hinge pin. But I am not sure if you
can do this with carbhinges?!
