 For a water landing in a retract, you definitely want the gear UP. Generally, for emergency landings, the gear will go DOWN.  This is also true over rough terrain, including trees, gear down.  That helps to absorb impact if nothing else.  Land at minimum speed, full flaps.  Do not stall and impact vertically.
