Yup, a huge big chunk off one pad and a smaller one off the other...  I switched to the Cleveland pads with very good results.  The 'pad holders'  are still the originals.  The pads are revitted to these holders.  Easy operation if you have the right tools.  So, you are correct, only the brake pads are purchased and replaced.  Never had a problem with the disk although I did replace the pair when I upgraded some components of the brake system with newer and much better parts from Matco (steel instead of AL).    The AL parts were prome to wear and caused lots of squeaking...

I would recommend getting the Cleveand pads and chunk (i.e. throw in garbage can)  the old Matco pads.  Maybe the new and improve Matco pads are better but I would not trust the ones that came with the kit.  Again, don't take chances.  Losing your brakes when landing does not sound like a fun thing to experience...<G>.
