A few days ago, I told my friend that we ALWAYS have to identify ourselves as 'experimental' when calling ATC.  I sent him the FAR associated with this rule (see 3 below):

91.319 AIRCRAFT HAVING EXPERIMENTAL CERTIFICATES: OPERATING LIMITATIONS

(d) Each person operating an aircraft that has an experimental certificate shall -

(1) Advise each person carried of the experimental nature of the aircraft;
(2) Operate under VFR, day only, unless otherwise specifically authorized by the Administrator; and
(3) Notify the control tower of the experimental nature of the aircraft when operating the aircraft into or out of airports with operating control towers

Unless it is stated elsewhere in the FARs, FAR 91.319-d3 clearly states that we only have to identify ourselves as 'experimental' to the control tower.  This excludes approach/departure control, center, etc.  Is this a correct assesment?
