Okay guys -

I chatted with our EAA chapter member flying with "real-time weather" and here's what I learned:

- He uses a separate GPS to provide the data for the moving map

- He uses a satellite phone to download the weather info

- This info is 'married' on the IPAQ display.

The text capability is there, but limited, due to a 1-minute constraint on download from the satellite (as I understand it).  This could be increased, I believe, - but would significantly increase cost.

There are issues that he feels need to be resolved before he would unequivocally recommend it - - ESPECIALLY as a sole-source GPS map data.

He is optimistic that it will be more reliable within 12 month.

You COULD use the sat-phone to connect to the internet, if you so chose, but it would be expensive...

hope that answers the questions I've fielded after my previous post...

blue skies,
