I fly with a King KLN-94 and an S-Tec 50.  The avionics tech who installed my KLN-94 suggested I fly in APR mode when coupled to the GPS (I can switch between GPS & VOR).  Flies just fine.

When engaging ALT there will be three or four pitch ocillations before it stabilizes.  These can be stopped with just a little nudge on the stick (not long enough for the A/P to trim against it).  Also, on heading changes of more than a few degrees (where angle of bank exceeds about 10 degrees for more than a few seconds), the ALT hold will "hunt" for a few ocillations.  The avionics tech says the gain in the pitch mode may need to be adjusted.  He also says my servos probably need overhauled as the break-out amperage is a little high.
