Paul, Bob & Others,
I agree with both of you 100% - comments on this
list are subject to "severe flaming" and as both of you have said, it isn't
worth the hassle and BS that surely follows when someone doesn't
agree.
I have personally met Bob Pastusek and Jim White,
who are doing a beautiful job on thier IV-Ps. Personal opinion is
that not having Bob contribute to the list is sad - he has a wealth of ideas
(which I'm incorporating in my IV-P) that could have been shared by
everyone. This list could have been a much more valuable resource if he
had contributed.
Example of recent flaming is Engine Air - with
them out of the business, what choices do we have? Turbines &
Continental TSIO-550 as far as I know. Turbines I know nothing about - no
comment. Continental, in my opinion, is poor at best. A friend of
mine on our field, who has a IV-P, has about 700 hrs. TT on his 550 and the
classic problems are beginning to appear - low compression and oil leaks (which
appear to be caused by high crankcase pressure). The damn thing is leaking
oil out of the valve covers, among other places! It is a shame that an
engine that costs $62,000. in today's dollars is that sorry! Who dreamed
up the TBO? Rant mode off (grin). For what it's worth, I'll be
standing in line to pay my $62K about next May.
I want to re-emphasize what Bob & Paul have
said - let everyone have their say and let it go, unless there is good
reason otherwise. If that happens, then we might see some good ideas
start flowing.
FWIW,
