Attention Rick Schrameck and anyone else who likes to jump
to conclusion:

Mr. Wolf,

Here is some basis for concern about the V-8 designs I have been talking about.  Please do not misunderstand, this problem could happen to anyone who uses battery power to operate the ignition or fuel on an airplane.  Airplanes are not cars, when we have a problem it is not always possible to pull off the road.

Having said that here is my concern about anyone flying with this system.  Mr. Wolf, what would happen if you had a alternator failure on your plane?  Do have mixed voltage on the plane? Lets say some 12 volt and some 24 volt.  I believe that you have a 12 volt ignition and fuel system 12 volt gear and flaps at a minimum.  What happens when your charging system fails?  Do you have a back up?  If you do not , please develop one.  Having a back up ignition is not the issue, having the power to run all the systems required to fly and land safely should be backed up.  On my Legacy I have a redundant electrical system with two alternators and all my systems are only one voltage.  My engine has a mechanical fuel system and mags that do not require battery power to operate.
I am glad that you are carefully testing your plane, we all should do that.  Please examine your power plant system.  Use this scenario, flying at night, you have an alternator failure and you start running on your battery system as voltage drops I believe that your ignition and fuel system would start to surge or fail.  If you have a low voltage and you head for a landing with a sick engine and put flaps or gear down, both systems use 12 volts.  You may be in a real trouble, whatever voltage was there to run the engine is now robbed to operate the gear and flaps.     This is some of my issues with the EngineAir system.  The EngineAir is not the only system like that out there.  For safety sake please review your system and make sure you are protected .  Maybe you have already dealt with this, I believe that some people did not.
My issue is only safety not the demise of EngineAir.  Maybe they will stop threatening law suites and look within.

Please fly safe,

Rick
